Meet the Shuswap Total Fitness Team!

Shuswap Total Fitness is a full service co-ed gym. Owners, Jim and Christine Nickles, are excited to bring some fresh ideas and energy to our members.

Our friendly team includes personal trainers, group fitness instructors, friendly and knowledgeable staff here to help each person reach their fitness goals. Shuswap Total Fitness wants to be your choice for fitness and to add more quality to your life through fitness.

What you will find…

• Over 9000 square feet on two floors with lots of parking.

• Cardio corner: ellipticals, treadmills, spin bikes, recumbent bikes, rower, cybex, stairmaster and more.

• Dry heat saunas, included with membership, two available, one in the mens’ and one in the ladies’ change rooms. (Temporarily closed due to COVID-19 Restrictions).

• Personal Training – We have certified personal trainers to help you reach your goals without the guess work! For more information and to find a trainer suited for your needs ask one of our front counter team members.

• Free one hour consult with every 3 month membership or more.

JIM NICKLES,
Owner

Jim has been the local Fire Inspector in Salmon Arm for the past 15 years. He has retired from a 30 year firefighting career with UBC, Vancouver, and Salmon Arm Fire Departments.

Jim had some success in competitive bodybuilding, winning the heavyweight division of the BC’s, Western Canada’s and Canadian Nationals in the early 90’s.

Jim’s interest in fitness led to him to Shuswap Total Fitness. Certified as a CanFitPro Personal Trainer Specialist.

CHRISTINE NICKLES,
Owner

Christine currently works for School District No. 83 after staying home for many years to raise her and Jim’s 3 children.

Hockey-mom Christine’s interest in fitness stems from her younger years when she was a Fitness instructor and Managed a fitness centre.

Christine intends to be actively involved in making Shuswap Total Fitness one of the best Fitness centres in the Shuswap.

Personal Trainer

I have made my long-term passion my career as a CanFitPro certified personal trainer and group instructor. My favourite part of being a trainer is positively impacting people’s lives and helping them reach their health and fitness goals.

DENISE
Team Member & Karate Instructor

Denise is at our front desk and can help you find the membership that is right for you.  Denise has also been training in Karate for more than 30 years and currently holds a second degree black belt! She has taught and coached this martial art for over 15 years and you can join her for a fun fitness class taught in a safe environment.

THERESA

Theresa has loved exercising and strength training since she was a teenager. After attaining BCRPA’s weight training certification (and loving it) she decided to do the Group Fitness Certification. So much fun! Certified since the summer of 2018. Theresa can’t wait to teach more and looks forward to helping everyone enjoy improving their overall health.

MARCY

Marcy holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and is a certified group fitness and weight training instructor. She has always been involved in athletics both as a competitor and as a coach. She enjoys endurance sports and has competed in numerous runs and triathlons. Her favourite class to teach is Spin.

PAM

Pam has been a certified fitness instructor for over 25 years and has taught a variety of fitness classes. She’s always had a passion for dance and fitness and now just teaches the Dance Fit classes. This is a fun, invigorating workout done to current and oldies music. It includes some salsas, cha-chas, low impact cardio and even some line dancing.  Class is suitable to all ages and fitness levels but mainly appeals to the 55+ age group.

DANA

Dana has been teaching group fitness for over 26 years. She enjoys teaching a variety of classes and being a part of the evolution of fitness. Her most recent certifications include Bootcamp, YogaFit, Zumba, Strong by Zumba and Pound.

LEANNE

With my desire to keep healthy and mobile as I age, fitness has always been a big part of my life.  I became a certified group fitness instructor in 2016, with receiving certifications in Jari Love’s Get Ripped programs, Jillian Michaels Body Shred, and Bosu level 1 and 2. I teach “Ripped”, “Body Blitz” and “Spin” classes at Shuswap Total Fitness.  I love teaching classes and want my classes to contribute to everyone’s health and wellness.

 My group fitness registration is through Canadian Fitness Education Services.  I hold a diploma in nursing through the BC College of Nurses and Midwives. 

JENNIFER

ALYSSA, BSKin

Alyssa has a Bachelor of Kinesiology from UBCO, as well as a Psychology minor. Alyssa grew up in Salmon Arm and was involved in many sports over the years, developing her passion for fitness and rehab, and ultimately leading her on a career path. Alyssa is fully committed to educating and assisting people achieve their fitness, health, and rehabilitation goals!

MARNIE

Marnie is a busy mother of 5 and a new business owner who is passionate about fitness. She enjoys teaching spin as it keeps her motivated and because it is such a great low impact cardio class! Sweating is the perfect stress reliever!

LESLEY

Lesley first discovered pound fitness in her local area June 2019. In September of 2019, she decided to take the plunge and become a Pound instructor. Took a trip to the coast,  and received her certificate in Pound. Lesley has been rocking out for over a year and wishes to continue to grow by adding classes for kids, teens and care facilities.
